The A-Z of Information about Palmerston
Welcome to Palmerston District Primary School. We have provided an A-Z of information to assist in a smooth transition to Palmerston Primary School. If you have any further questions, please call the front office on 02 6142 1440 and they will endeavor to assist you.
Learning Support Unit
We currently have 2 Learning Support Unit's (LSU) at Palmerston. Theses units accommodate students with varying special needs. The aim for most of these students is to integrate for some of the day into a mainstream classroom to provide opportunities for them to interact with their peers. Each student has an Individual Learning Plan, developed in consultation with parents, the school and relevant specialists, which outlines educational and or social goals.
Leaving School Grounds
Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds after arrival and before 3:00 pm unless the class teacher has a note from a parent/carer. Students needing to leave during school hours must be collected by a parent/carer at the agreed time and must be signed out at the front office.
Library
Classes attend the library for borrowing and returning library books. Palmerston encourages the use of waterproof bags to protect and carry books.
The library is also open to students before school and at lunchtime each day, for students to borrow, read or play chess. Parents are welcome to use our library. We also welcome parent volunteers.
Lost Property
Your child’s name should be marked clearly on all personal belongings, particularly clothing. Unclaimed belongings are kept in tubs in the Library foyer and may be checked at any time.
Lunches
Palmerston District Primary School is part of the Fresh Taste Initiative to promote and develop healthy eating habits both in schools and homes. As part of this initiative we encourage you to provide a piece of fresh fruit and a healthy recess and lunch for your child in a named lunch box. Please keep packaging and wrappers to a minimum.
