Australia
is a diverse country, stretching 3700 km from north to south, and
about 4000 km from east to west. Covering 7 686 850 square kilometres
and with a coastline of 25 760 kilometres, it is the 6th largest
country in the world, and the only country to cover a continent!
The
landscape is unique, with large stony and sandy deserts and tablelands
in the west and the centre; sweeping plateaus and plains which flank
narrow coastal slopes to the east. Landforms are ancient, mountains
low and rounded. The highest mountain Mount Kosciuszko, is only
2228 metres above sea level.
The
continent has many different climate zones ranging from tropical
in the north, to subtropical and savanna, to arid deserts in the
centre and temperate in the south. Snow falls regularly in winter
in the mountains, yet six months later the same areas are basking
in 30+ Celsius.
Each
state has its own unique attractions. Follow the links to visit
